Dr Irvin and Dr Pilkington are members of Applied Biological Control Research who are heavily involved in researching the biological control of the economically important insect pest Homalodisca vitripennis, or the glassy-winged sharpshooter.  Current research that is being undertaken in the research group includes the effect of temperature on reproductive and developmental biology of several parasitoid wasps species, the manipulation of floral resources in citrus crops to enhance parasitoid longevity in the field, the effect of glassy-winged sharpshooter produced brochosomes on wasp oviposition and research into the ovigenic characteristics of the parasitoid wasps.
